Very rare
The Agrias amydon oaxacata, a subspecies of the Agrias amydon, is a striking and rare butterfly native to the tropical forests of Oaxaca, Mexico. The female of this subspecies is notable for her large, vibrant wings that display a mix of deep blue and green hues, complemented by bright orange markings along the edges. The wings are long and broad, giving the butterfly an almost ethereal appearance as it flits through the forest understory. The female’s coloration is somewhat more subdued compared to the males, but still captivating, with a subtle iridescence that shifts in the light. The undersides of the wings are a more muted brown, adorned with eye spots that help camouflage the butterfly in its natural habitat.
These butterflies prefer the shaded environments of tropical and subtropical forests, where they can find their larval host plants. The Agrias amydon oaxacata is known for its agile flight, often moving in a series of quick, erratic patterns, typical of the Agrias genus. Despite their bold colors, these butterflies are somewhat elusive, making sightings rare and highly prized by butterfly enthusiasts. The combination of their vivid colors, large size, and distinctive flight patterns makes the Agrias amydon oaxacata female a remarkable presence in its native habitat.

HOW WE GRADE OUR LISTINGS (SPECIMENS)
As Insect specimens are natural products, some are bred and some others caught in wild, the quality can vary greatly.
The guide below explains the grading used for specimens in our listings.
A1 No visible imperfections, both antennas, no tearing, scratches or missing part of the wings (or as perfect as you could expect from wild caught specimens), with exception of some leg damage.
A1- Very minor damage, normally restricted to antenna damage or antennae attached separately in the envelope.
A- These specimens have minor damage, such as antenna damage, or minor flight wear such as small scratches, minor sale damage, some minor fraying/chipping around the edges of the wings.
A2 More significant damage, such as major flight wear, small rips, small pieces missing from the wings, damage to the thorax or abdomen.
B or Second Grade These specimens have similar damage to A2 specimens, but to a more significant degree. Usually used as parts replacement or art work material
